Gokin.it è felice di intervistare il Sig. Hiroaki Tanaka, Direttore Esecutivo dell’azienda giapponese “Good Smile Company“. 1. Domanda: Buongiorno Sig. Tanaka, ci racconti un po’ di lei, di cosa si occupa in azienda e da dove nasce questa passione e competenza nel produrre personaggi e robot dell’animazione giapponese.
   Risposta: Ciao, sono Hiro Tanaka. Presso Good Smile Company, sono il produttore generale del marchio “Mecha Smile”, che include le serie MODEROID e THE Gattai.

Hello Mr. Tanaka, tell us a little about yourself, what you do in the company and where this passion and expertise in producing characters and robots of Japanese animation comes from.

1. Risposta :Sono nato nel 1971 e sono cresciuto guardando molti anime di Super Robot (tra cui Mazinger Z) quando ero un bambino. Sono entrato in un’azienda di giocattoli nel 1997 e lavoro nel settore degli hobby robotici da oltre 25 anni. La mia passione di lunga data come fan dei robot e la mia vasta esperienza nel settore dei giocattoli mi hanno portato dove sono oggi.

Hello, this is Hiro Tanaka. At Good Smile Company, I serve as the overall producer of the “Mecha Smile” brand, which includes MODEROID and THE Gattai. I was born in 1971 and grew up watching many super robot anime（including Mazinger Z）when one was a child. I joined a toy company in 1997 and have been working in the robot hobby business for over 25 years. My long-standing passion as a robot fan and my extensive experience in the toy industry have led me to where I am today.

2. Domanda: Noi italiani conosciamo Good Smile Company come grande distributore, produttore di figure, personaggi vari e robot anime, ma ultimamente si è evoluta nella produzione di mecha con il marchio “Mecha Smile”, cosa può raccontarci a riguardo?

We Italians know Good Smile Company as a large distributor, producer of figures, various characters and anime robots, but lately it has evolved into the production of mecha with the "Mecha Smile" brand, what can you tell us about it?

2. Risposta: Il tema del marchio “Mecha Smile” è “creare possibilità per un mondo pieno di vari prodotti robotici”. Non solo sviluppiamo opere di robot popolari, ma portiamo anche l’attenzione su opere che non sono mai state trasformate prima in figure.

The theme of the Mecha Smile brand is to “create possibilities for a world filled with various robot products.” We not only develop popular robot works but also bring attention to works that have never been made into figures before.

3. Domanda: Abbiamo visto che avete iniziato a produrre soggetti tratti dalle varie serie Brave, intendete continuare su questa linea?

We saw that you have started producing Subjects taken from the various Brave series, do you intend to continue along this line?

3. Risposta: I prodotti della serie “Brave” sono ben accolti non solo in Giappone, ma anche tra i fan di tutto il mondo. Abbiamo in programma di continuare a sviluppare prodotti della serie Brave in futuro.

The Brave Series products are well-received not only in Japan but also among fans worldwide. We plan to continue developing Brave Series products in the future.

4. Domanda: Oltre alla plastica, pensate di inserire in futuro anche il die-cast in modelli come il robot “Dancouga” che abbiamo recensito sul sito Gokin.it grazie a lei?

In addition to plastic, are you thinking of including die-cast in the future in models such as the robot “Dancouga” that we reviewed on the http://Gokin.it website thanks to you?

4. Risposta: Sì, abbiamo la possibilità di prendere in considerazione prodotti che utilizzano materiali pressofusi (DIECAST). Grazie al vostro supporto, anche Dancouga è stato ben accolto. Grazie per la recensione. Poiché i prodotti pressofusi tendono a essere più costosi, li prenderemo in considerazione con attenzione, anche più dei nostri normali prodotti THE Gattai.

Yes, we do have opportunities to consider products using die-cast materials. Thanks to your support, Dancouga has also been well-received. Thank you for the review. Since die-cast products tend to be more expensive, we will carefully consider them even more than our regular THE Gattai products.

5. Domanda: Dal momento che in passato avete realizzato il veicolo “Swordfish II” e realizzerete anche il “Kaiser Carrier”, pensate di dedicarvi ad altri veicoli in futuro?

Since in the past you have created the “Swordfish II” vehicle and will also make the “Kaiser Carrier”, do you plan to dedicate yourself to other vehicles in the future?

5. Risposta: Credo che ci sia una possibilità. Al momento, l’unico piano confermato che posso condividere è l’uscita di “Gatchaspartan” nella serie MODEROID, prevista per luglio 2025.

I believe there is a possibility. At the moment, the only confirmed plan I can share is the release of Gatchaspartan in the MODEROID series, scheduled for July.

6. Domanda: State lanciando anche versioni “limitate” come la “Shin Getter Clear”. Avete intenzione di creare altre versioni limitate di modelli già usciti? Se sì, solo Moderoid o anche The Gattai-Hagane Works?

You are also launching limited versions such as the Shin Getter Clear. Do you intend to create other limited versions of models already released? If so, only Moderoid or also The Gattai- Hagane Works?

6 . Risposta: Sì, abbiamo in programma di continuare a rilasciare edizioni limitate (limited edition). C’è anche una possibilità per le serie THE Gattai e HAGANE WORKS, ma poiché sono prodotti costosi, li prenderemo in considerazione con attenzione.

Yes, we plan to continue releasing limited editions. There is also a possibility for THE Gattai and HAGANE WORKS, but since they are high-priced products, we will consider them carefully.

7. Domanda: Abbiamo visto che realizzate anche parti extra in pacchetti aggiuntivi, è per mantenere basso il prezzo?

We have seen that you also make extra parts in additional packages, is this to keep the price low?

7 . Risposta: Quando si tratta di espositori e parti aggiuntive speciali, alcune persone ne hanno bisogno, mentre altre no. Puntiamo a soddisfare entrambi i tipi di clienti. Per coloro che non hanno bisogno di parti aggiuntive, questo approccio alla fine aiuta a mantenere il prezzo più basso.

When it comes to display stands and special additional parts, some people need them while others do not. We aim to accommodate both types of customers. For those who do not need additional parts, this approach ultimately helps keep the price lower.

8. Domanda: State pensando di utilizzare qualche licenza per la produzione di alcuni robot Tatsunoko Production o Sunrise? Se sì, in quale linea? Moderoid o Hagane Works ?

Are you thinking of using some license for the production of some Tatsunoko Production or Sunrise robots? If so, in which line? Moderoid or diecast Hagane Works?

8 Risposta: Da Tatsunoko Production, abbiamo già rilasciato prodotti di “Tekkaman Blade” e “Gatchaman”. Da Sunrise, abbiamo prodotto molti titoli che sono stati ben accolti.
Per le future uscite, c’è la possibilità che svilupperemo prodotti con entrambi i marchi MODEROID e HAGANE WORKS.

From Tatsunoko Production, we have already released products from “Tekkaman Blade” and “Gatchaman.” From Sunrise, we have produced many titles that have been well-received. For future releases, there is a possibility that we will develop products under both the MODEROID and HAGANE WORKS brands.

9. Domanda: Siete soddisfatti delle vendite dei prodotti della serie “The Gattai”? Pensate di continuare con la proposta di altri soggetti della serie “Brave”?

Are you satisfied with the sales of the products of the The Gattai series? Do you think of continuing with the proposal of other subjects of the Brave series?

9. Risposta: Sì, il marchio THE Gattai è cresciuto oltre le nostre aspettative. Naturalmente, stiamo valutando di espanderci oltre la sola serie Brave.

Yes, THE Gattai brand has been growing beyond our expectations. Of course, we are considering expanding beyond just the Brave Series.

10. Domanda: Avete annunciato la “Dairyuga” in collaborazione con il signor Masami Obari, state pensando anche di iniziare la progettazione della “Black Wing”? Vediamo spesso questa cooperazione con il signor Obari, come è nata questa forma di collaborazione?

You have announced the Dairyuga in collaboration with Mr. Masami Obari, are you also thinking of starting the design of the Black Wing? We often see this cooperation with Mr. Obari, how did this form of collaboration come about?

10. Risposta: Per quanto riguarda “Black Wing”, al momento non è stato ancora deciso nulla. Comunico spesso con Masami Obari, discutendo idee di prodotti per opere come “Dancouga” e “Bang Bravern”. Molti dei nostri progetti nascono da queste conversazioni.

As for “Black Wing,” nothing has been decided at this point. I frequently communicate with Masami Obari, discussing product ideas for works like “Dancouga” and “Bang Bravern.” Many of our projects are born from these conversations.

11. Domanda: Come è nata la scelta di proporre dei kit così accurati e fedeli nella linea “Moderoid”? I collezionisti italiani sono in attesa dell’uscita del robot Danguard nella linea “Moderoid”. Puoi darci maggiori informazioni a riguardo?

How did the choice to propose such accurate and faithful kits in the Moderoid line come about? Italian collectors are waiting for the release of the robot Danguard in the Moderoid line. Can you give us more information about it?

11 . Risposta: Mentre la linea MODEROID include design con arrangiamenti originali, come “Mazinkaiser” e “King’s Style Granzort”, la maggior parte dei nostri prodotti ricrea fedelmente l’aspetto dell’anime. Sia i modelli reinterpretati che quelli fedeli all’anime sono supportati dai fan, ma quando un prodotto viene trasformato per la prima volta in una figure, di solito ci atteniamo strettamente al design dell’anime. Se un modello reinterpretato viene rilasciato per primo, le opinioni tendono a essere divise a seconda delle preferenze individuali.
Pertanto, diamo la priorità alla creazione di figure nella loro forma fedele all’anime in modo che quante più persone possibili possano godersele. Per le opere che sono già state trasformate in figure in più occasioni, a volte produciamo versioni reinterpretate – restyling. Saremo in grado di condividere altri aggiornamenti su Danguard A presto.

While MODEROID includes designs with original arrangements, such as “Mazinkaiser” and “King’s Style Granzort,” most of our products faithfully recreate the anime’s appearance. Both arranged models and anime-accurate models are supported by fans, but when a product is being made into a figure for the first time, we usually stick closely to the anime design. If an arranged model is released first, opinions tend to be divided depending on individual preferences. Therefore, we prioritize creating figures in their anime-accurate form so that as many people as possible can enjoy them. For works that have already been made into figures multiple times, we sometimes produce arranged versions. We will be able to share more updates about Danguard A soon.

12 .Domanda: Raccontaci della scelta e della progettazione dei soggetti robotici: come avviene? C’è uno studio particolare prima di dedicarsi specificatamente alla produzione di un determinato soggetto?

Tell us about the choice and design of robotic subjects: How does it happen? Is there a particular study before dedicating yourself specifically to the production of a certain subject?

12 . Risposta: La nostra selezione di prodotti si basa in gran parte sui risultati dei sondaggi. Scegliamo attentamente scultori e designer specializzati in ogni lavoro specifico. Inoltre, spesso cerchiamo un feedback diretto dai designer meccanici delle opere originali, affidandoci alla loro competenza per aspetti approfonditi e specializzati.

Our product selection is heavily based on survey results. We carefully choose sculptors and designers who specialize in each specific work. Additionally, we often seek direct feedback from the mechanical designers of the original works, relying on their expertise for deep and specialized aspects.

13. Domanda: Al momento stai puntando al mercato interno giapponese o stai guardando anche ad altri mercati? In Italia collezionisti e appassionati guardano le nuove serie, ma sono anche emotivamente legati agli anime robotici anni 70/80. Pensiamo che Baldios Moderoid sia stato un successo.

At the moment are you aiming at the Japanese domestic market or are you also looking at other markets? In Italy collectors and fans watch the new series, but they are also emotionally linked to the 70s/80s robotic anime. We think Baldios Moderoid was a success.

13. Risposta: Stiamo prendendo in considerazione sia il mercato interno giapponese che il mercato globale. Il “MODEROID Baldios” è stato ristampato più volte e ha ottenuto vendite elevate. Riteniamo che offrirlo come un modello in plastica relativamente conveniente sia stato un fattore chiave del suo successo.

We are considering both the Japanese domestic market and the global market. “MODEROID Baldios” has been reprinted multiple times and has achieved strong sales. We believe that offering it as a relatively affordable plastic model was a key factor in its success.

14. Domanda: Puoi rilasciare in anteprima per tutti i fan, qualche immagine del Dairyuga o di qualche altro mecha?

Can you release a preview for all the fans, some images of the Dairyuga or some other mecha?

14. Risposta: Le informazioni su “Dairyuga” saranno aggiornate entro la fine di giugno 2025, prima della scadenza per il pre-ordine. Collezionisti/fans non perdete tempo!

Information about “Dairyuga” will be updated by late June, before the pre-order deadline. Please look forward to it.

15. Domanda: Puoi spiegarci meglio come funziona il licensing? Ad esempio, abbiamo visto che il prodotto “Fightbird”, è stato proposto anche da altre aziende. Puoi spiegarci come funziona e se questo vale anche per altre serie come “Moderoid”?

Can you explain to us better how the licensing works? For example, we have seen that the “Fightbird” product, has also been proposed by other companies. Can you explain to us how it works and if this also applies to other series such as “Moderoid”?

15. Risposta: Per quanto riguarda le licenze, ogni proprietario dei diritti di licenza ha le sue regole, quindi noi, in quanto licenziatari, non siamo in grado di fornire una spiegazione dettagliata. Una cosa che possiamo dire è che avere prodotti rilasciati da più produttori offre ai fan più scelta, il che crediamo sia un risultato molto positivo.

Regarding licensing, each licensor has its own set of rules, so we, as a licensee, are unable to provide a detailed explanation. One thing we can say is that having products released by multiple manufacturers gives fans more choices, which we believe is a very positive outcome.

16. Domanda: C’è la concreta possibilità di vedere realizzati in futuro dei robot come “Moderoid” nelle linee “Hagane-Works – The Gattai”?

Is there a concrete possibility of seeing some robots made like “Moderoid” in the “Hagane-Works – The Gattai” lines in the future?

16. Risposta: Al momento non ci sono piani concreti, ma la possibilità esiste.

There are no concrete plans at the moment, but the possibility exists.

17.
